ALBION have another achievement to be proud of.

The club is leading the way in providing matchday accommodation for disabled supporters, standing head and shoulders above Premier League giants.

The Amex is one of just nine clubs in the top flight to meet the requirements for provision of disabled facilities – there are 20 clubs in the Premier League.

However, the Seagulls go a step further in their provision.

Their home is one of four stadiums in the country to be named a centre of excellence’by Level Playing Field, a charity which represents disabled people in sport.

The centre of excellence status is awarded for demonstrating high standards in accessibility and providing fully inclusive experiences for disabled supporters.

Only Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, Derby County’s Pride Park and the England national team’s Wembley home are on the same level as the Amex.

Albion’s recommended minimum wheelchair space number is 180 but their total number is 221.

In their debut season in the Premier League, Tony Bloom’s club are setting the benchmark for the big hitters.

Last season’s champions Chelsea have been lambasted by Level Playing Field for their facility provision for disabled fans, along with 20-time champions Manchester United.

It was reported in a national newspaper earlier this week that a fan on an away day trip to Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea, could not even see the goal his team were attacking.

As for United, they are undergoing construction work to make Old Trafford more inclusive for disabled supporters.

Both clubs have been threatened with legal action for their accommodation.

An Albion spokesman said: “Disabled provision is something we have always taken very seriously, ever since Withdean.

“The experience is for all fans and we aim to make it inclusive and accessible.

“We want our supporters to have the best accommodation possible.

“It is good to get recognition for our disability provision but it is what we should be doing.

“We are not doing anything over and above what should be expected.”
