GOODBYE Christopher Robin - a new biopic of the famous creator of the Winnie the Pooh stories - is predicted to give East Sussex a major economic boost when it opens this week.

The film - which charts AA Milne’s family life as his famous ‘pooh bear’ gains global recognition - was partly filmed on location in Ashdown Forest.

The area has always held a place in Pooh fans’ hearts as the Hundred Acre Wood. Hollywood stars Margot Robbie and Domhnall Gleeson will take leading roles in AA

The economic effect on the area is predicted to be profound.

Nigel Smith, chief executive at Tourism South East, said “We would particularly expect to see a significant rise in overseas visitors to the area. The tourism industry is already worth over £250 million annually to the district of Wealden.”

Sarah Wood, MD of Mulberry Cottages, a holiday cottage rental company, said “The new film is a fantastic opportunity to us – and other like-minded local companies – to show our visitors the really ‘sticky’ side of Sussex.”
