DANCE fans got together for an unusual start to the morning yesterday.

It was the first Rise and Shine, an early-morning rave at Club Revenge in Old Steine, Brighton.

The event, open to all ages, was inspired by the success of morning raves such as Morning Gloryville which are popping up all over London.

Joss Hayford, 31, an optician from Brighton, took her daughter, three-year-old Mae, along.

She said: “It’s been really fun for her, she’s loved it.

“It’s nice to be able to bring her to something a bit different in the morning.”

The event is the idea of Simon Twiddy, of Trickstar Radio, and Revenge promoter Steve Jones and offers “the ultimate wake-up call” through a variety of fun-filled exercise classes, rooftop yoga sessions, vegan-friendly smoothies and snacks.

It is also bringing businesses together, working with local fitness instructors, masseuses and London bistro chain The Breakfast Club.

Hayley Simpson, who works in events and marketing for The Breakfast Club, said: “We’ve been up since 4.30am but it’s been a lot of fun.

“It would be great if it could take off like Morning Gloryville, which was quiet at first but has just grown and grown.”

This might be some solace to the organisers, who said the first event was quieter than expected.

But even they admitted the event, which ran from 6.30am to 10.30am, might have started too early.

Steve Jones, co-founder of Rise and Shine, said: “It’s a new concept for us so we’re still working out ways to build it and make it better.

“The whole thing flowed really well, but even for me waking up at 5am was early.”

“We’ll do another in November but maybe we’ll save that for a Saturday.”
