STUDENTS at Pestalozzi International Village Trust in Sedlescombe welcomed the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan, Her Excellency Pema Choden.

This was the first official visit of the Ambassador, who is based in Brussels, to Pestalozzi.

Four students from Bhutan acted as her guides on a tour of the charity’s facilities.

Student Nidup Dorji said: “It was a real honour to meet the Ambassador.

“Pestalozzi has given us an opportunity to study that we would not have at home and it was good to be able to show Her Excellency what Pestalozzi is all about.”

The Ambassador thanked Pestalozzi for its support.

The UK-based charity has almost 60 years’ experience of offering life-changing opportunities to young people from disadvantaged communities around the world.

Scholarships are awarded to exceptional 16-19 year olds who are academically gifted but have limited educational prospects in their home countries.

As well as Bhutan, Pestalozzi works with young people from the most marginalised communities of Belize, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe as well as Tibetans in exile in India and Nepal.
