ALBION’S club store and website eclipsed their best-ever takings last week.

The money made from the Amex Stadium’s megastore, along with the club’s pop up at the Churchill Square shopping centre in Brighton and their online retailer seagullsdirect.co.uk, was boosted further on Black Friday.

The Seagulls dub their own version of the super-sale day Blue Friday, and this year sales were up more than 50 per cent on takings from the last Black Friday.

Albion’s excellent start to life in the Premier League will undoubtedly have played a big part in the club’s success off the field.

After a rocky start Chris Hughton’s men went five matches without losing, only falling short against giants Manchester United away from home on Saturday.

Albion are sitting comfortably in the top half of the table, and look at home among the big boys of English football.

Club officials are expecting the good commercial form to remain throughout the Christmas period after the last week broke records.

At the beginning of last week more than 1,500 replica shirts were sold.

The white and blue Nike kits arrived in time for Monday’s match against Stoke City, leading to another surge in sales.

Albion made, in total, more than 500 per cent above what they have ever taken before in shirt sales – an incredible feat.

Paul Barber, Albion’s chief executive, said: “It’s fantastic to see the team’s progress on the pitch being matched off it by these tremendous figures being delivered by the club’s retail team.

“They have had a phenomenal week and I would like to thank them for their incredible efforts and hard work over the past week.

“We know we have a few busy weeks ahead, as people continue to get ready for the Christmas period.”

Albion’s next match is against arch-rivals Crystal Palace at the Amex tomorrow night.

The Seagulls will be seeking revenge in the mouthwatering clash.

Tomorrow’s game is the first time the two teams have lined up against each other since Palace knocked Albion out of the Championship play-offs in 2013.

However, both teams go into the match in incredibly different circumstances.

Palace are rooted to the bottom of the table on eight points, while Albion are sitting pretty in the top half with 16 points to their name.

Kick-off is at 7.45pm, and will feature once again on Sky Sports.
