A WORTHING pub has been shortlisted in the Gin List of the Year in the Imbibe’s Drinks List of the Year 2017.

The Egremont, which is based in Brighton Road, is one of seven businesses across the country shortlisted for the award.

The pub will go up against 40 St Paul’s from Birmingham, Charlotte’s Bistro and Mr Fogg’s Gin Parlour, both from London, The Jolly Botanist and One Square, both from Edinburgh and Drakes from Brighton.

This will be the second year of the Drinks List of the Year competition in association with Maxxium, which seeks to reward exceptional drinks menus.

The successful lists range in style from those that focused solely on the gin-and-tonic serve to those with truly encyclopaedic ranges of gins from all over the world – and everything in between.

Egremont, owned by Greg Grundy, has more than 50 choices of gins which include Monkey 47 which is made with 47 botanicals including lingonberries and cranberries.

There is also the gin Bloom which is a light, delicate and floral gin with a totally unique slightly sweet taste created by a bespoke blend of three botanicals: honeysuckle, chamomile and pomelo.

Deputy Editor of Imbibe, Laura Foster, said she was delighted to see so many businesses were proud of their drinks menus as they were inundated with entries.

She said: ‘It was heartening to see a number of bars enter again this year with improved lists, suggesting that they’d read the judges’ feedback and taken it on board.

Imbibe editor Chris Losh said: “I was very impressed with the overall standard of lists this year.

“Those that didn’t make it through were rarely actually bad – just lacking in imagination or personality.”

The winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony.

Egremont will hope to go one step better than in the Jägermeister’s trade Back Bar competition this month as they finished as runners-up and won a personalised Jäger machine.

The Worthing-based pub serves a range of home cooked food, from premium steaks to vegan salads.

Its new menu features many vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options.

It is open Sunday to Thursday from noon until 1pm and Friday and Saturday noon until late.

The pub is growing in popularity and it now has a strong reputation.
