A BRIGHTON jazz singer fighting cancer hopes to be well enough to perform as the special guest at a children’s talent show tomorrow.

The B Starz Got Talent show will see young performers taking to the stage to support Abi Flynn, 27, who has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of blood cancer common in younger people.

Organisers have their fingers crossed that the audience will be treated to music from Abi herself as well performances from the youngsters who made it through to the final.

Jasmine Jeffery who runs B Starz – a performance school for children aged seven and over, said: “Abi is stunning, humble and doesn’t moan in any way about her situation. She’s super talented and tries to help others in a similar position to herself.

“I first met her on the jazz scene at the Paris House in Hove. I knew she was an amazing singer but I didn’t realise she was poorly. I started following her story and became overwhelmed by her courage.”

Jasmine says she is keen to raise even more money for Abi and is considering running a talent show for the whole of Brighton and Hove.

When she was first diagnosed Abi was told treatment would be straightforward but after six months of chemotherapy she was diagnosed with a stubborn strand of Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Abi continues to sing and work with cancer charities including Stand Up to Cancer. The money raised tomorrow will give her the chance to receive non-NHS treatment in Prague called Proton Therapy.

Jasmine added: “I hope it’s a wonderful feeling for her to know that everybody is behind her. I think it would be really nice for the children to see her singing. I know she loves working with children.

“I told the kids who didn’t get through to the final show that they’ve already done an amazing thing just by donating their three pounds.

“The support from the Brighton community and all of our families has been overwhelming but we know we can get much more.”

B Starz Got Talent takes place at Brighton and Hove High School tomorrow and will include a raffle.
