GEO the snail paid a trip to Brighton College to say hello to some of the school’s smallest pupils.

The giggly gastropod is the mascot for this year’s Martlets Hospice Snailspace campaign, which will see 50 giant artist-decorated snails pop up all over the city.

The campaign follows on from the hospice’s hugely popular Snowdogs campaign that delighted city dwellers and visitors alike back in 2016.

The school’s nursery, pre-prep, prep and senior school have joined together to support the campaign by the hospice by sponsoring a snail.

Decorated snail sculptures, sponsored by businesses throughout the city, will be appearing all over Brighton, and the campaign will be linked to the slogan #BeMoreSnail, used to encourage everyone to slow down, be more mindful, and to wander (and wonder at) the unique sculptures throughout the city.

A competition has been launched for the children at the nursery, pre-prep, prep and the college’s lower School to name their snail, and its design will be announced later this year.

Brighton College’s deputy headmistress Leah Hamblett said: “The school is incredibly excited to be part of Snailspace and we can’t wait to see where our snail will be.

“It wasn’t just the little ones here at school who enjoyed meeting Geo – we had plenty of sixth formers and staff taking selfies with him too!

“We love the mindful concept that Martlets are drawing attention to with this campaign – that everyone should slow down and take time to look around and see what a beautiful city we live in.”

The Snowdogs by the Sea art trail contributed £10.1 million to the local economy.
