A WOMAN who had her car window smashed in a row over a parking space says she has been bowled over with messages of support.

Yesterday The Argus reported how Charlotte Lincroft, 27, had been reversing into an empty space in Preston Street, Brighton, when two men tried to stop her because they wanted to keep it free for a friend.

A row broke out and a man allegedly smashed the window of her car.

Another was seen on video apparently swinging at her and knocking her phone out of her hand.

Following yesterday’s story, the trainee dog groomer said she had been inundated with messages of support from members of the public.

Speaking to The Argus Miss Lincroft, of Hove, said: “People I don’t even know are messaging me and telling me if you need anything ‘Charlotte we will help you’, not to be scared and offering me lifts while my car is out of action.

“People are being really kind.”

Miss Lincroft was driving to meet friends for dinner in Preston Street on Tuesday at about 7pm.

She says two men stopped her reversing into a space then started shouting abuse and swearing at her.

The row escalated to a point where she says a man started to punch her convertible Audi before smashing the back window.

He then fled the scene she says, and she took a photo of his friend.

In video she posted on Facebook, a man is seen to apparently swing at her, knocking her phone out of her hand.

Reflecting on the incident she said was proud she stood up for herself, even though now she thinks she was lucky not to have been hurt in the “parking rage” incident.

She added: “I felt a bit silly about it, but now I have realised I was just standing up for myself and people could see that.

“Hopefully it will teach other women that you can stand up for yourself.

“And in Brighton I will always stand up for gay and transgender people, if I see them suffering abuse, because it is wrong.”

She said her whole car roof may now need to be changed due to the damage.

Sussex Police are investigating the incident and said the man in the video has still not been identified.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “No arrests have been made at this stage.”
