SOMETIMES dreams really do come true.

For Polly McGillivray, 39, from Brighton, that meant getting married in a medieval castle wearing a kilt and surrounded by guests dressed up as Game Of Thrones characters.

She and 35-year-old wife Skylar, who are both competitive weightlifters, tied the knot at Lympne Castle in Kent with a piper and a performing strongman in attendance.

“We are known as the only strongwoman couple in the UK,” said Polly, who coaches Southern Rail train drivers in her day job.

“The wedding was horribly confusing for anyone trying to dress up as it was a medieval, Game Of Thrones Scottish theme but we just fell in love with the castle when we saw it.

“All my heritage is Scottish and Sky’s obsessed with medieval fantasy.

“She’s a nerd but a good-looking one, which is unusual.”

The couple’s first date was in the gym, where both could deadlift in the region of 140kg, before wedding planning began in earnest six months ago.

Government official Skylar said: “We basically saw each other red and sweaty and knew our relationship could survive anything.”

The couple wed in a traditional handfasting ceremony in front of a congregation dressed as dragons and executioners, with Polly decked out in her family tartan.

“We had no idea what was going on most of the time because we were being pulled from pillar to post,” said Polly. “We had a DJ from MTV and some very basic traditional drums, but we didn’t dance much because Sky got emotional at the music.

“So we just rocked a little bit.”

Their weightlifting careers have been put on hold for the time being, but Skylar was keen to speak up for female involvement in the sport.

“When I was a kid I was told I wasn’t allowed to go to the gym because it wasn’t what girls did,” she said.

“But we want to take up more space now. It isn’t about being little any more.

“All these body images I used to try to follow never worked.

“I like walking down the street feeling strong and broad. It feels really empowering.”

But Polly admitted they don’t always train together these days.

She said: “I’m quite competitive, and I can get a bit mardy because Sky’s better than me.”
