KINGS School has marked the start of the construction of their new school site.

The secondary school held its ground breaking ceremony last Friday in West Blatchington site, in Hangleton Way, Hove.

The new building will be three storeys high, 35 classrooms on a 3.8 hectare site.

It will move from its temporary home in Portslade Aldridge Community Academy, in the High Street, in September 2019.

The ecumenical Christian school opened in September 2013 but its current home home is not large enough to allow for expansion.

West Blatchington Primary School will get a new two-storey building.

Sarah Price, head teacher, said: “We were very excited about this.

“On Friday we invited Reverend Richard Jackson, Lord Bishop of Lewes to bless the site during the ceremony.

“It was nice to celebrate the start of construction for our new building. We will be moving everyone in next September. We will start our move next summer.

“Currently we have 500 students, the new site will have 1,050 in full capacity.

“We will take up 150 more pupils for each year level.

“This will help with providing more places for parents in the area.”

The project was funded Education Funding Agency.
