A SCHOOL WILL opens its doors once again this year for Take Shelter! – a series of family-centred events where residents will get an opportunity to venture down into the depths of an original air raid shelter.

Take Shelter! will host a timetable of 45-minute guided tours of the shelter and will take place over two consecutive weekends in May – Saturday, May 12, and Sunday, May 13, and then Saturday, May 19, and Sunday, May 20, as part of the Brighton Festival Fringe series of featured events and historical tours.

Tickets for morning guided tours of the shelter, at Downs Junior School in Ditchling Road, Brighton, are available to book in advance via the Fringe website and tickets for afternoon tours are available to book in person on the day. Entry is free to some 1940s’ themed events in the school playground and doors will open at 12 noon, closing for the last tours at 4pm.

It is hoped there will be a Q&A with any ex-pupils and Second World War Veterans.
