I've written several times about the state of the public toilets in Brighton, assuming of course you can find any that are open.

I feel sorry for Rita Huth and David Sewell (Argus, Tuesday, April 24) because the toilets near the Pavilion Gardens Cafe, are without doubt, some of the worst I have ever had the misfortune to have to use.

They have been in the same disgusting, dirty, and smelly state for years.

I’ve recently visited Tintagel, Padstow, Newquay, Falmouth, Llandudno, Southport and Blackpool and every single one of these places, without fail, had decent clean toilets, which were well maintained.

There was also less street litter and graffiti too. In every instance Brighton failed miserably in comparison.

It doesn’t matter which party are in charge, our public toilets remain the same.

Residents and visitors aren’t looking for councillors scoring points as to who does what. They just want results. Preferably this decade rather than the next.

I’d also question the council’s comments that they have invested £800,000 in increasing attendant hours at the Pavilion Garden toilets and at the seafront... in addition to capital investment in the city’s public toilets?

Really, £800,000 for attendant hours? How many people and hours will this equate to? Because it sounds like an awful lot of money for so few toilets.
