A NURSE is so stressed she cannot sleep after being sent demands for a parking fine – despite having proved she paid to park.

Victoria Daly, 45, parked at Brighton Station while she and her family travelled to London for a dancing show in February.

They were meant to be travelling from where she lives in Worthing but due to rail disruptions, they had to travel from Brighton.

Her daughter helped her pay £6.90 via text message to the parking management company Indigo for a maximum stay of 24 hours as per the instructions in the car park, though they only left the car there for eight hours.

Three weeks later, Victoria received a letter from Indigo saying she had not paid for her parking on that day and therefore must pay a £70 fine.

She said: “I knew there had been some kind of mistake so I thought if I called them it would all be over in a few seconds.

“But it took me ages to get through to them and when they finally did answer I told them they had made a mistake and the young boy on the other end of the line said they didn’t make mistakes.

“I said I could prove I had paid as I took a screenshot of the text and I could show them my bank statement which shows the payment made to Indigo.

“But they said without a receipt they had no proof I had paid for my car.”

The station car park is the property of Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) which owns rail operator Southern.

Indigo told Victoria it would place her account on hold while it asked the GTR if it would agree to drop the charges.

On May 31, Victoria got a letter from debt collector ZZPS saying she now owes £170 due to not paying the initial fine.

She said: “I thought the account was still on hold.

“I tried to call them again but they didn’t answer and I haven’t bothered trying to call them again because even when they have answered the phone the operators have been rude to me.

“I am so stressed over it and losing sleep, because I have never owed anyone even 10p before.

“I am a nurse so I can’t have a criminal record and I just worry that common sense won’t prevail and I will end up in trouble.

“I am worried about bailiffs being sent round or ending up in court over something I haven’t done.”

GTR responded to The Argus by asking for Victoria’s vehicle registration and penalty notice reference number. It said it was going to look into the matter with its “parking management contractor” and would be in touch soon.

The Argus also contacted Indigo and ZZPS for a comment.
