A BUSINESS devastated by a major blaze reopens its newly extended site today.

Fire tore though Chandlers Building Supplies’ warehouse in Basin Road North, Portslade, in March.

Nobody was injured and fire chiefs confirmed the cause was not thought to be suspicious.

Now Chandlers is holding an open morning for the public, starting at 8am today, to raise funds for Off The Fence charity.

Marketing manager Sue McKinney said: “One of our buildings, located beside Hove Lagoon, was badly damaged by fire in March.

“While we managed to reopen 72 hours later, we know what it’s like not have a roof over our heads.

“As a result, we felt it very fitting to devote our open morning to a wonderful Brighton charity, Off The Fence, which is dedicated to helping local homeless people.”

The event is backed by neighbour Norman Cook, alias Fatboy Slim, who has sent a message of support to the company.

Norman woke to see the warehouse, close to his home, ablaze and sent The Argus a video of the drama.

The open morning will include a beat the goalie competition against 2016 Big Brother winner Jason Burrill and the chance to win a signed Albion football shirt.

There will also be lots of other prizes and giveaways.

It is open to everyone, with all proceeds going to charity.

Donations are also welcome in return for a free breakfast, which is being served all morning.

Thirty three people are employed at the new premises of the builders merchants, which has 13 branches throughout London, the South East and the West Midlands.

This year it celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The Chandlers team originally reopened the branch just days after the blaze but the site has now been made bigger.

Store manager Nigel Williams said at the time that he was overwhelmed by the support shown to the team during and following the devastating fire.
