[1] From Wadhurst Station turn right through the car park, cross the road and turn right along the footway. From the bus stop, go along the footway, in the direction of Wadhurst village.

In 200 yards, near a building close to the road, cross to a fingerpost and follow the footpath downhill. For the next two and a half miles our route is on the Sussex Border Path (SBP) - a footpath of nearly 150 miles closely following the inland boundary of Sussex. It was re-launched in September 2016 following extensive re-waymarking by Sussex Ramblers; look for the new green waymark discs.

Go over a stile, cross the railway lines and over another stile. Bear left uphill as indicated by a waymark and into a wood. Go through a hand-gate, by farm buildings on the left, along a driveway, through another hand-gate to a lane and turn right.

[2] At a T-junction cross to go along a tarmac track, following this public footpath. In about 450 yards, go through a hand-gate on the right and down the left-hand field edge. Near the bottom, bear left to go over a footbridge and then turn right, go through a hand-gate and along the field edge to cross another footbridge.

Go up earth steps, bear left, go through a hand-gate and continue to the top of the field. Go through another hand-gate to Buckhurst Lane and turn left for about 75 yards.

[3] Turn right on a footpath through two hand-gates in succession, then bear left along the field edge, through a kissing-gate and turn right. Follow the right-hand field edge.

Go through two kissing-gates, then along the left-hand field edge and through another. Follow the path down earth steps to cross a footbridge, then a stile, continuing to a kissing-gate and turn right along Partridges Lane.

In 150 yards, around a left-hand bend, turn left at a fingerpost, go up wooden steps and through a hand-gate. Follow the right-hand field edge to go through a gate, bearing to the right of twin oasts, then immediately left as indicated by a fingerpost.

Bear to the left of a farmhouse, turn right through a hand-gate with waymark, and continue straight down a field. Go through a hand-gate and down through woodland, alongside a fence to cross a footbridge.

Go uphill, through a hand-gate and along the right-hand field edge. Continue uphill in the next field, through a hand-gate and along a driveway to a four-way fingerpost.

[4] Turn right along the driveway, through a hand-gate, then a field-gate. Continue down a sunken path, bearing right along the bottom field edge.

Go through a field-gate and up the left-hand field edge, then bearing right downhill through a hand-gate into a wood. Go over a bridge, follow woodland path, bearing right up a sunken track which turns sharp left then bears right to a lane.

Turn right for about 300 yards, and then go over a stile on the left. Follow waymarked footpath through woodland, cross a footbridge and continue on waymarked path, over a stile. Go along left-hand field edge and through a hand-gate to a lane.

[5] Turn right uphill along Buckhurst Lane for 400 yards and over a left-hand stile.

[If preferring to avoid the main road, without footway, back to Wadhurst Station, continue on the lane for a further 250 yards and retrace the route from point 3 along the SBP; this will add about three-quarters of a mile to the walk.]

Go down the right-hand field edge and, at a corner of woodland, bear left to the bottom corner to go through a kissing-gate, a hand-gate and over a plank bridge. Go uphill to a field-gate on the left, and then continue direction along the field edge through two hand-gates to Faircrouch Lane.

[6] Turn left past household waste depot, over the railway bridge to the main road (B2099). Turn right, taking great care (no footway) for about 400 yards to return to Wadhurst Rail Station.
