THE Argus has handed out a grant to help staff and volunteers save suicidal people who go to Beachy Head.

The Argus Appeal, the charity arm of the newspaper, handed £1,200 to help the Beachy Head Chaplaincy team to buy two computers. The computers will help the chaplaincy team, which patrol Beachy Head on foot and by car, responding to emergency calls, to locate people at risk.

They use skills in crisis intervention to offer supportive listening, to start a dialogue and to encourage more hopeful solutions than suicide.

Elsa Gillio, Argus Appeal co-ordinator , said: “The chaplaincy team applied for money for their new computers for their officers. The trustees agreed to support them once again. We bought furniture for their offices before.

“We went over and presented a cheque to them and looked around. We were delighted to be able to support them once again.”
