AN ADDICT who stole steaks before launching a racist assault has been ordered to clean up his act.

Lee Hurse appeared in court accused of taking £61 worth of meat from the Lidl supermarket in Arundel Road in Brighton in March this year.

The 35-year-old then attacked Relph Jones-Quartey in Whitehawk Road on the same day.

He admitted the two offences committed on the same day when he appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court last week.

The common assault on Mr Jones-Quartey was described as being “racially aggravated”.

Hurse, of Upper Chalvington Place in Brighton, also admitted failing to turn up for a drugs test in March at Pavilions in Richmond Road.

He was told he must complete 15 drug rehabilitation days in the next six months.

Hurse must also pay £200 in compensation to Mr Jones-Quartey, which will be deducted from his benefits.
