MOTORISTS faced long delays after a caravan overturned on a busy dual carriageway today.

Police were called to the incident on the westbound carriageway of the A27 between Dyke Road Avenue and the A293 at Hangleton.

The wrecked caravan was smashed on its side across two lanes of traffic, causing severe tailbacks.

Brighton and Hove buses said the crash had also affected its services across the city.

Police were called to the scene, and officers directed traffic while the clean-up operation got under way.

In a statement the police said: “We were called to an overturned caravan on the A27 in Hangleton, Brighton ,at around 1.30pm yesterday.

“No injuries were reported. Both westbound lanes were closed until 3pm.”
