A man has been arrested after a woman reported being raped in a park.

The 26-year-old man was questioned by officers in connection with the alleged attack on a 28-year-old woman at Southwick Green on Wednesday last week.

She was taken to hospital after the incident at 2am, and is continuing to receive specialist advice and support.

Police cordoned off the park while crime scene investigators searched for clues.

At first the police reported that an Asian man was suspected, but officers say the suspect who was interviewed is not of Asian origin or appearance.

They say it is an isolated incident which is not being linked to other investigations in Adur and Worthing, or elsewhere.

The suspect, who police say is local to the area, has been released under investigation while the inquiry continues.

Detective Sergeant Kirsty Murray said police still want witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

They want to trace anyone who may have been in the area at the time.

Anyone with information should contact Sussex Police online or call 101 and quote Operation Oakley.
