MARKET Place Shopping Centre in Burgess Hill was a hive of activity at its A Bee’s Journey event.

Shoppers were able to learn about the importance of these interesting insects.

Families on a day out at the Burgess Hill shopping centre took part in the free activity to discover just why bees make the environment even sweeter, and to find out more on the inner workings of a hive.

There was a selection of arts and crafts to make and take home as a memento of the day.

The event was part of Market Place’s ‘sustaina-bee-lity’ initiative, which in spring of last year saw a local beekeeper installing a hive on the shopping centre’s roof.

Andrew Harvey, centre manager at Market Place Shopping Centre, said: “The arrival of the bees has been a wonderful project for us to bring to the town.

“It has been fascinating to see the development of the colonies throughout the year and every time we check on them, there’s always something new to see.

“A Bee’s Journey was a great activity for families to get involved with, as we can all do our bit to understand how we can preserve and encourage nature as much as possible.

“There was lots of educational fun enjoyed by people of all ages at the event, and it kept the bug for learning fresh in children’s minds during the holidays.”
