BRITISH Transport Police have ordered more officer patrols following a suspected terror attack in London.

A man in his 20s was arrested after a car crashed outside the Houses of Parliament this morning, injuring several people.

In response, there will be an increased police presence on trains and at stations in Sussex and across the country this afternoon and evening.

Peter Kyle Labour MP for Hove and Portslade said: “I know Sussex Police and British Transport Police prepare for events like this 365 days a year.

“My task is to support them in their job of keeping people safe at difficult times like this.

“Sussex Police have done an outstanding job of preventing incidents in the past as have other agencies such as our council.

“Days like today underscore how important giving them all the resources they need to do the job truly is.”

Superintendent Chris Horton from British Transport Police, said: “We know incidents such as this are likely to cause concern, so our officers will be highly visible both on board trains and at stations.

“We are there to reassure the travelling public so please don’t be alarmed if you see our officers, including firearms officers, on your journey.”

If you have any concerns on your journey, get in touch by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40.
