A WOMAN was sexually assaulted in Worthing.

Officers were called to Brougham Road around 9.15pm on Wednesday to a woman who had been grabbed from behind.

The woman in her 60s had been walking in a courtyard off Brougham Road when she was grabbed from behind and pulled towards a bush.

The man grabbed her under her clothing but she screamed and he ran away.

The woman suffered bruises and pain to her hip.

Detective Sergeant Simon Smith said: "The victim is being supported by officers and she has given us a description of the man, though she didn't get a good look at him. She said he was wearing dark clothing, wearing gloves and smelt of oil.

"We did an immediate search of the area but didn't find the man. Did you see him running away?

"Were you in the Brougham Road area on Wednesday evening and see a man acting suspiciously or hanging around? Do you live nearby and see someone who you didn't recognise in the area?"
