MACMILLAN Cancer Support is looking for people with time to spare to help and support people living with cancer.

Volunteers are needed to help the Brighton Buddies group, which offers practical and emotional support in the home for people living with and affected by cancer.

It’s designed to offer the right kind of support when a person needs it most.

New volunteers are needed to boost the team that supports with home visits, who offer a listening ear and a chat and help with practical tasks, such as light housework and shopping.

Jacky Slater, who was diagnosed with skin cancer, has a Macmillan volunteer who visits her at home in Rustington once a week for a few hours. They are pictured right.

She said: “Having this type of support has made such a difference to our lives. Brian coming around for a chat and a laugh means my partner who is my carer, can have a break and go out for a walk without worrying about me.”

Macmillan Cancer Support volunteer services co-ordinator Anton Morgan Thorne said: “People affected by cancer tell us they need local support during their cancer journey.”
