The uncle of the Babes In The Wood murder victims has recorded a video to accompany a musical tribute written for them.

Nigel Heffron, 53, of Fletching Close, Whitehawk, filmed in Wild Park, Moulsecoomb, where there is a memorial garden for Nicola Fellows, ten, and Karen Hadaway, nine, whose bodies were found in the park 21 years ago.

The single was written by Brighton-based lyricist Dawn Sinclair, and composer and singer Ron Gletherow, from Connecticut, US, recorded the song Babes In The Wood, earlier this year.

Ms Sinclair said she was so touched by the murders of the girls, who were found strangled and sexually assaulted in 1986, she felt she had to write a song.

She went to the victims' families in the summer, saying they could do whatever they wanted with the single.

On Tuesday, Mr Heffron, Mr Gletherow and Ms Sinclair went to Wild Park with a video camera and recorded parts of the video at the memorial garden.

Mr Gletherow will record the rest when he returns to America before editing it together and posting it on popular website You Tube.

Mr Heffron said: "Ron was over here and said he would like to record some footage in Wild Park for the video. It's been done in a very amateur way because we wanted it to look like that.

"There are two segments on the CD which are spoken which we recorded on Tuesday. The rest is going to be recorded by Ron in America with a backdrop of Wild Park behind him while he is sat in front at a piano."

Mr Heffron said HMV and Virgin in Brighton have already agreed to sell the single, and he is hoping other retailers will also show an interest. The money made from the sales will be split between Children In Need, Childline and the Rockinghorse Appeal.

Mr Heffron said: "It felt very weird recording the video in the park but it felt good. It was like everything had come together using all these different mediums.

"The year started off badly with the bench being vandalised and then the travellers fixed it up, and Kingspan created a memorial garden around it.

People have got respect for it which is really touching.

"Everything has come to a high and it's all coming together the way the girls would have liked it."

Mr Heffron is hoping to raise £610 to help produce copies of the CD. If anyone would like to make a donation call him on 07936 368604.
