In response to Stephen Yandell (Letters, November 4) I would like to assure residents that we are doing everything possible to meet the current demand for recycling boxes.
The shortage of boxes was a problem we inherited from the previous administration but I am pleased to report that, after changing supplier, we have taken delivery of 8,000 boxes which are currently being distributed to residents on our waiting lists.
We have also doubled the number of crews out delivering the boxes to homes in the city.
The high demand for boxes has taken Cityclean by surprise and we would remind residents that they should be used only for sorting and storing recycling.
I would like to thank those residents waiting for boxes for their patience and urge them to continue putting out their waste for recycling.
I can assure you that this council is committed to reducing, reusing and recycling waste and I would like to encourage everyone to do their bit.
- Geoffrey Theobald, chairman of the environment committee Brighton and Hove City Council
