I attended the Act of Remembrance at the Whitehawk Primary School on Friday, once again organised by Dudley Button (The Argus, November 10).

I was so impressed by the occasion, its organisation and the level of active participation by the young children.

Deputy mayor David Smith, president of the British Legion branch, Sir Andrew Bowden, along with other dignitaries attended this annual tribute which was so very appropriate and so well presented. Such a credit to the organisers, the school and its children, and to the people of the Whitehawk estate.

I also had the displeasure, last week, of watching a damning and totally negative television programme which was intended to reflect life on the Whitehawk estate. I feel compelled to say what a gross disservice was done to the people of Whitehawk by that programme.

We all know that every estate has its share of "non-angels" and those who need to learn how to conduct themselves better to be part of a good community. That is not unique to Whitehawk. It applies to virtually every estate in the country.

I am 70 years old and was fortunate to have been raised on the Whitehawk estate. It was a good place to live and if the media featured just some of the good people and some of the good things, such as Friday's event, perhaps people would get a more accurate picture of Whitehawk.
