A BODY has been found near a busy roundabout.

Police are treating the death as “unexplained” after discovering the body off the A23 in Crawley.

Residents reported that police closed off part of the road this afternoon as they attended the incident.

A large number of officers were called to an area near the Southgate roundabout and they were soon joined by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

An area of the highway was blocked off with cones, and police tape was stretched across the road as enquiries continued.

The road remains closed at this stage.

Sussex Police have now confirmed a body has been found at the roadside, but this is yet to be identified.

The death is being treated as unexplained.

A force spokeswoman said: “At 1.04pm, Sussex Police were alerted to a body near Southgate roundabout on the A23, Crawley.

“Officers are conducting a number of enquiries at the location and a cordon is currently in place.

“Lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstances, including identification, are ongoing and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.”
