A MARATHON event is on the hunt for volunteers to help out on race day.

Brighton Marathon Weekend 2022 is due to take place from April 8 to April 10.

Thousands of people are expected to take to the streets to raise money for their chosen charities.

Volunteers are needed to help across a variety of roles, including at the marathon, the BM10k, BM Ride and the mini mile races.

American Express, who is an official community partner for this year’s marathon, is to launch an advertising campaign in the city centre encouraging people to volunteer, spectate and donate.

The campaign, called Make it Amazing, will see an advert appear on the big screen at Brighton station and on the lampposts that line Queen’s Road.

“We’re calling on people from across Sussex to get involved in a massive show of support, to cheer and motivate the runners and riders on their way to the Finish Line.

“We’re hoping to see the community out in force again, volunteering, spectating, and donating. Let’s make this year’s event truly amazing.”

This year’s runners will be raising money for more than 200 different charities.

MindOut, a mental health charity for the LGBTQ community, and Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex have been chose as local charity partners for the event.

Event director Tom Naylor said: “We very much hope that the Sussex community will help us to bring the Brighton Marathon Weekend to life again this year. Without the generosity and enthusiasm of our volunteers the event simply could not happen.

The local community are renowned for making Brighton Marathon one of the most exciting and atmospheric marathon events in the UK – we really hope that this April is no exception.

We’re therefore delighted that our Community Partner, American Express is leading the call for volunteers, spectators and charity donations this year.”
