I worked as the deputy head of Risk and head of Construction Health and Safety for the Brighton and Sussex University NHS Trust for two years until November 2006. During that time I spent at least one day a week at the old Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital.

During my time there we had to close part of the hospital (the wing shown on the left of the picture) because it was unsafe.

We spent a considerable sum of money on safety measures just to keep other parts of it going long enough for the beautiful new children's hospital to be built on the Royal Sussex County Hospital site.

The old Royal Alex is not a beautiful building and it should make way for some much needed housing in the centre of the city.

If local residents are so concerned about beauty, why don't they protest about the hideous and unsafe obelisk being proposed for the middle of the Seven Dials roundabout.

Currently, there is vision all the way around and across the roundabout.

With any sort of raised island, there will only be restricted vision and motorists will have to take a chance rather than have the clear view which they currently do.
