I write with regard to your article about Don Short who got a parking fine for not displaying his blue badge the correct way round (The Argus, January 28). Can I first say that in my opinion the parking attendants did use common sense and adhered to the law under "The Disabled Persons (Badges for Motor Vehicles) Regulations 2000".

For those not familiar with this. it states: "A disabled person's badge is displayed on a vehicle in the prescribed manner if:- (a) the badge is exhibited on the dashboard or facia of the vehicle, or (b) where the vehicle is not fitted with a dashboard or facia, the badge is exhibited in a conspicuous position on the vehicle, so that the front of the badge is clearly legible from the outside of the vehicle."

The article quotes Mr Short as saying: "The badge was not in right place because I couldn't see it properly." If Mr Short couldn't see the badge, I would question his ability to hold a driving licence. How can you see the road in front of you properly, if you can't view something less than three feet in front of you?

I would strongly recommend that Mr Short surrenders his licence back to the DVLA before he ends up in front of the courts again for a more serious offence.
