A driver suffered leg injuries as icy roads led to a series of car crashes this morning.
The man was involved in a collision between two cars on Turners Hill Road, near East Grinstead, at 8.15am.
He became trapped in his vehicle and had to be cut free by firefighters.
The emergency services helicopter flew to give treatment before the man was taken away by ambulance. He was receiving treatment at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill today.
The driver of the other car suffered minor injuries after the crash, which happened close to the Kingscote Station for the Bluebell Railway.
Five minutes earlier two crashes happened within moments of each other on the A272 at Scaynes Hill near Haywards Heath.
Two cars crashed after skidding on the icy road and another collided with the road side.
No-one suffered any serious injuries.
Sussex Police warned road-users to take care as the cold weather had made driving conditions difficult.
