In reply to Paul Carter of Portslade (Letters, January 25) about animals on buses.

I have a small dog. He sits on my lap on the bus and train on long journeys. I put him on a clean towel if he wants to sit on a seat, though he's happy on my lap.

You must have a real downer on dogs Mr Carter. I have never seen a dog on a seat and travel on the bus every day with my pet. The only reason Chops the dog was on the seat was because he was by himself, not doing any harm.

I am more concerned with sitting next to a traveller with body odour. Give me a lovable dog any day. What about the people who sit on the back seat of the bus with their feet on the seat opposite ignoring the notices that request them not to?

Ban mobiles and over-the-top pushchairs before a dumb animal. Here are some unwritten rules I'd like to see in daily use.

1. Everyone keeping to the right on escalators.

2. Nobody blocking the front of buses by standing while there are seats and standing room further up the bus.

3. No pushchairs two abreast along busy pavements.

4. Everyone putting their litter in bins.

5. Mobiles and loud phone conversations banned on buses and trains.
