It is good to see Mark Johnson has such confidence in the power of local democracy to change European Union policy (Letters, February 1).
However, much as I hate to prick his (barrage) balloon it ought to be pointed out that his local (Green) councillors are unlikely to be able to make much difference in this area alone.
More importantly, if he is expecting local elections in May he will again be sorely disappointed.
The next planned local elections are in May 2011.
But hang on to your vote as the European elections are due in 2009.
