FATBOY Slim performed on the seafront last night in front of thousands of adoring fans – in Albion's new kit.

Twenty years on from his historic beach gig, Norman Cook took to the stage east of Brighton Palace Pier as the headline act for the first night of the On The Beach festival.

The 58-year-old DJ, who lives in Hove, walked out in Brighton and Hove Albion’s new home kit for his set.

Fans from all over the country travelled to see Fatboy on Brighton seafront, 20 years almost to the day on from his Big Beach Boutique 2 performance on July 13, 2002.

Rhiannon and Tim Mitchell were two fans who travelled down from Yorkshire to see him play.

Rhiannon said: “I wanted to come in 2002 when I was 17, but my dad said no because of alcohol and teenage boys. Twenty years later and I have finally made it.”

Lauraine and Robbie Stewart from Crawley were excited about the performance.

Lauraine said she was at the 2002 performance, while Robbie went to Amsterdam for a holiday.

He opened The Sun newspaper in the airport on the way home and saw the photos of the now famous show  - and instantly regretted having gone to his friend’s stag do.

Another group of pals said they were “super excited” to see Fatboy and hoped it lived up to the “legendary status of 2002”.

Tonight, Friday, there will be Storken with Sasha B, Dance System and LP Giobbi.

Fatboy Slim is not performing on Saturday or Sunday but DJ Carl Cox will headline Saturday, along with Nic Fanciulli, Chelina Manuhutu and Russell Small.

Sunday will see Andy C perform, along with Sub Focus and Wilkinson, Shy FX, Dimension, Friction and Harriet Jaxxon.

The RNLI issued a warning ahead of the festival, urging people not to swim after drinking alcohol.

It also said people should check tide times and keep a close eye on their surroundings, as the tide can change surprisingly quickly.

Brighton and Hove City Council also urged people without tickets not to try and attend, claiming there was “no view of the stage or artists”.
