Michelle Taverner claims that Norman Cook's proposed party would be "a huge benefit to this city" and relates it to "music and youth culture" (Letters, February 9).

As a victim of last year's event, driven from my seafront home for several hours by the excessive volume of noise, I see little connection between music and Mr Cook's form of entertainment, with its emphasis on loudness (possibly the reason why he chooses to perform well away from his own home and neighbours).

The only beneficiary, if the authorities are foolish enough to grant a licence, will be Norman Cook's bank account.
