For a band famous for their moody blues, Hijak Oscar were pretty good fun.
York's best and, let's face it, probably only seven-piece, harmonica-led band were fresh from Channel 4's Mobile Act Unsigned competition.
And while they still lack a depth of material, due to their relatively short career, there was enough here to show that Hijak Oscar will enjoy significant success in the months to come.
They will never sell millions of records. But there is nobody else out there at the moment making dirty songs like Bitter Carnival or Losing Hand, which is probably why a decent crowd turned out to this, the fifth date on the band's Hellbound Tour.
People say lead singer, the dishevelled Tim Fox, was born in the wrong era. But if we're going to enjoy music like this then who's complaining?
