A FESTIVAL goer who threw his empty vodka glass in the face of the woman who served him at Love Supreme will pay her compensation.

Jamie Reed, 23, bit and spat at staff,  security guards and police as they tried to arrest him on the second night of the music festival in Glynde, Lewes.

The 23-year-old, who lives in Wonersh, Surrey, ordered three vodkas at a bar on July 2.

After downing the first one, Reed threw the empty plastic glass at Katie Cupis, hitting her in the face.

The former student, who a court heard has ambitions to become a writer, told police he needed his hands free to carry the other two drinks.

Security were called to eject Reed from the three day festival.

Jennifer Grey, prosecuting, told Brighton Magistrates Court: “They removed him, he tried to run away.

“He was taken to the floor where he continued to fight.”

Reed bit a member of security staff on the knee, breaking the skin.

He was smirking as he spat the face of a member of the security staff, Ms Grey said.

After trying to run away, Reed was taken to the ground by four security guards before police handcuffed him.

He spat repeatedly at police as they restrained him.

Chairman of the bench Frankie Sulke told Reed: “This showed some pretty despicable behaviour.

“You will pay compensation for the people who came to work that day not expecting to be spat at or bitten.”

Reed admitted three counts of assault by beating and assaulting an emergency worker.

He was ordered to do 140 hours of unpaid work.

Reed will pay £50 compensation to Ms Cupis, and £100 each to a security guard and a Sussex Police officer.

Reed was given 28 days to pay a total of £549 in compensation and costs.
