The RAF's oldest full time flyer has retired from the service after 40 years of the high life.
Flight Lieutenant Wistow, 63, faces a grounded existence following his distinguished navigating career.
Flt Lt Wistow, who grew up in Hove, joined the Royal Navy as an engineer but was told he could not fly planes in the Fleet Air Arm because his eyesight was not up to scratch.
He then applied to join the RAF as a navigator and was accepted - to fly planes aboard navy ships.
Over the next six years Flt Lt Wistow flew Sea Vixens aboard HMS Eagle and Buccaneers from HMS Ark Royal, working on the first smart missile project.
For the last 17 years most of his time has been spent as a navigator instructor in Yorkshire, serving at Finningley, and since 2001 at RAF Linton-on-Ouse near York.
His long career ended with a final flight in a Tucano. Flt Lt Wistow now plans a more sedentary lifestyle.
