A foreign trucker has been jailed for killing a grandmother as he tried to overtake her bike.
Polish driver Robert Plichta, 23, was sentenced to a year in prison after he knocked down cyclist Barbara Bone on the A259 in Littlehampton in April last year.
At Chichester Crown Court today, it was revealed Plichta - who broke down in tears in the dock as the details of his offence were translated to him - had obtained his HGV licence in Poland just three months before arriving in the UK.
Plichta had denied causing death by dangerous driving but was convicted after a trial.
He was banned from driving for three years and will have to take an extended test before he gets back on the road.
