Marrying an infectious indie-ska sound with the sort of lyrics that hark back to classic British songwriters Ray Davies and Buzzcock Pete Shelley, Twisted Wheel are a band to catch if you missed them play Digital last month.
Led by Mancunian Jonny Brown, formerly of mod-ska band The Children, the band has only been together a year, but started a label feeding frenzy within a few months with their songs about Big Issue sellers and heartbreak with You Stole The Sun.
Last month Jonny told The Guide that many of the characters in the songs are based on real people: "Where I come from, you can just walk into a pub and meet these nutters," he says.
"So many bands these days write about themselves and try to present this perception of how cool they are. With my songwriting, I take inspiration from Manchester and the people I meet. I can just walk into a pub and listen to someone's life story. I'm interested in stories and people's lives."
