A seafront road was closed for almost four hours after an accident between a motorcycle and a car.
The collision between the green Range Rover and blue motorcycle happened in King's Road, in front of Brunswick Terrace, Hove, at about 12.25pm.
Police and paramedics attended and drivers faced lengthy tailbacks.
A stretch of King's Road was closed and motorists were diverted to Western Road, causing gridlock on the seafront road packed with day-trippers and shoppers.
A police spokesman described the accident as "serious".
The road was re-opened at about 4pm.
The motorcyclist is said to have suffered leg injuries but his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed a man was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital but could not confirm the extent of his injuries.
