I wonder if the chief executive of the Brighton Festival, Andrew Comben, has actually noticed or taken the time to walk around the events to see the destruction of the gardens in our city?

I agree that the festival is a good way of celebrating artists, etc, but at what cost? I read with interest Annie Southern's suggestion for having the festival tents on the hard ground of The Level (Letters, May 7). I, for one, agree with her.

Why should we lose our flowerbeds and seating areas which many use, especially at this time of year.

Perhaps Mr Comben should take the time, along with council officials, once the events have gone, to see exactly what's been left behind to be made good - and then count the cost to see if it's worth it.
