A pair of maids will serve some dark comedy during the Brighton Fringe.

The Maids, by Jean Genet, will be directed by Carolyn Brown who decided to put the show on after seeing a production last year.

Mrs Brown, of Preston Drove, Brighton, said: "It is a brilliantly clever play.

"But I saw a production last year that I thought was awful.

"It was played by three young ladies, but Genet wrote the script to be played by men.

"I don't think they got it. The whole point of the play is it is about illusion and you are not supposed to get drawn in.

"After seeing that I thought, I've got to show the world how Genet wanted this play to be'.

"It should be produced the way he wanted it."

The play tells the story of two maids who want to kill their mistress but also want to be her.

It will be at Komedia Studio in Gardner Street, Brighton, on May 21 and 22 at 6pm.

Tickets priced £8 are available from the Brighton Dome ticket office on 01273 709709 or Komedia on 01273 647100.
