How sad to hear of the passing of Georgie Watts, the fishmonger in St James's Street, Brighton.
It was wonderful to see him every Remembrance Sunday proudly wearing his medals for the perilous duties he undertook at sea in the Second World War. His commitment to the business was always on display - cleaning down the last inch of his shop even if it took until 11pm.
Combined with these qualities was a wicked sense of humour.
Queuing for fish one day - there was never a rush - I overheard some banter between him and his wife, Gladys, which still makes me laugh to this day - although you could never print it.
Maybe it's too early to say this, but amid heartfelt condolences to Michael and the rest of the family, I really hope the shop will carry on and keep Georgie's memory alive for many years to come.
