I received a parking ticket from Brighton and Hove City Council on Monday, May 5, in Brunswick Place, Hove.

This was a bank holiday and you would expect Sunday parking regulations to apply. I am obviously not alone in this assumption as several other drivers received tickets along the same stretch of road, highlighting the ambiguity of the parking situation on bank holidays.

If the council wishes to charge on bank holidays, which it presumably does, it should clearly state that parking charges apply to bank holidays.

If it is practice to include on street signs the statement: "except bank holidays" when parking is free then it should also be a requirement to state: "including bank holidays" if the council intends to charge.

To add further insult, when I rang the office on the day I received the ticket to discuss the fine, it was closed for the bank holiday.

I am a disabled man who got a ticket for having my blue badge displayed wrongly. I appealed to Brighton and Hove City Council to show a little heart because the medication I take gives me stomach problems. On the day concerned I went to the chemist in St James's Street and then drove home, parked outside and had to rush to the toilet.

I came out of the toilet and looked out the window to see a traffic warden by my car. I explained the situation and the warden said don't worry just go to North Road and they will help. I did but the council did not help. £60 is a lot of money to me. The council seems to target the disabled for some reason.

Perhaps it is because we don't fight back.
