The opening set, however, was much more surreal, as rubber-faced Ricky Payne morphed into a vast array of historical and religious figures in an attempt to understand man and woman.
Edwin Mullane as Murphy was a master storyteller, creating an entertaining tale of brawls, madcap schemes and surprising emotion.
