PEOPLE have shared their anger at “disgusting” bags of dog poo left hanging off overflowing bins.
People have complained to Brighton and Hove City Council about eight bins filled to the brim in the Patcham area.
A woman said she was walking to Old Boat Cafe through Carden Park for a cup of tea on Tuesday morning and noticed one bin.
She said: “I don’t even have a dog, I just thought it looked disgusting.”
Alistair McNair, Conservative councillor for Patcham, said “bags of dog poo have been left on people’s walls” due to bins not being emptied.
He said: “Patcham councillors have contacted the council about dog poo bins being full. The council have said a street team will empty them soon, and I've also heard a worker is off which is the reason for the delay.
“Dog poo bins have been removed from around Patcham, for example Greenfield Crescent, which unfortunately results in bags of dog poo being left on people's walls.
“We've been told dog poo bins are being replaced with new bins but it hasn't happened yet, and residents are frustrated that they only seem to be being removed, and where they still exist not always collected.
“The ones still there also look in poor condition. Patcham and Hollingbury has many dog walkers so we desperately need new bins to make it easier for the waste to be disposed of. The vast majority of dog walkers take their dog poo home, but they shouldn't have to.
“There are hardly any bins near prime dog walking sites such as the nature reserve at the top of Ladies Mile Road, where they are really needed.
“Patcham councillors do regularly report full dog poo bins either when we see it, or when residents contact us.”
Cllr McNair said he has reported full bins in Rotherfield Crescent, Keymer Road, two in Chelwood Close, two in Horsdean recreation ground, Wilmington Way and Carden Park.
Another woman said she cannot “understand why people put more in when they see its full up”.
A council spokesman said: “We’re very sorry about the missed dog waste collections. This has been due to staff sickness.
“But we’re pleased to say we are now back to normal operating levels and have caught up with all dog waste bin collections.
“Dog waste can also be put in normal street litter bins, which are much bigger than our dog waste bins.
“But in many cases our parks have both dog waste bins and street litter bins, and these currently have different collection schedules.
“So we are planning to improve this service by replacing our dog waste bins with street litter bins.
“This will enable us to deal with dog waste more efficiently and more often.
“It will also mean fewer vehicles on the road, leading to a reduction in carbon emissions.”
