A contemporary Moroccan circus group is bringing its Christmas show to Brighton Dome.
Called Fiq!, the performance is a showcase of North African urban circus, brought together by 15 artists and featuring daring acrobatic feats, breakdancing and freestyle football.
Designed by British-Moroccan artist Hassan Hajjaj, the piece is said to be a “tender and playful ode to the young people of Morocco”, which defies traditional circus expectations to celebrate hip-hop culture, youth and freedom.
He said audiences of all ages will be dazzled by the innovative show, which will be at Brighton Dome’s concert hall between December 18 and 27.
Alongside each show, there will be a special performance devised with community partner The Circus Project, which is based at Hangleton Community Centre. It provides high-quality circus classes and workshops for people of all ages to foster young talent and use circus as a tool for helping young people experiencing personal challenges.
Vicky McManus, artistic director at The Circus Project, said: “The Circus Project are thrilled to be back at Brighton Dome performing a curtain raiser for FIQ!”
Vicky said: “Our talented youth circus has been working with London circus company Mimbre's acrobatic artists, learning new skills to create an exciting piece of circus theatre, Wake Up.
"This experience of working with circus professionals and performing for a public audience is building confidence and empowering for our young group.
"They are gaining the skills to trust, support and express themselves in the most creative environment. We hope you will all be inspired by their performance.”
