The most borrowed books from the city's libraries have been revealed.

Brighton and Hove City Council released the figures to The Argus following a Freedom of Information request.

The data shows the most borrowed books from libraries across the city and an author from Sussex tops many of the lists. 

The city has 14 libraries, and Richard Osman's beloved series of crime novels tops the charts in the most popular library, the Jubilee Library.

The first book in the series, The Thursday Murder Club, comes ninth in the Jubilee Library's chart.

The sequel, The Man Who Died Twice, is the most borrowed book in the city's most visited library.

The top ten at the Jubilee Library were:

  1. The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman
  2. Klara And The Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
  3. The Promise by Damon Galgut
  4. Double Down by Jeff Kinney
  5. Hard Luck by Jeff Kinney
  6. Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
  7. Lessons In Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
  8. The Getaway by Jeff Kinney
  9. The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman
  10. Oh William!: A Novel by Elizabeth Strout

 

Jeff Kinney, the author of the global sensation Diary Of A Wimpy Kid series, appeared in the top ten of nine of the city's 14 libraries.

Two of his novels were the most borrowed book at Coldean and Hangleton libraries. 

Launched in 2018, the city council's eBook borrowing service is also popular among residents. 

Any member of Brighton and Hove library services can download an app called BorrowBox app to their digital devices and access thousands of eBooks and eAudiobooks free of charge at any time of the day. 

Brighton and Hove residents have firm favourites when it comes to eBooks, and Richard Osman comes up trumps once again. 

All three books from The Thursday Murday Club series top the list.
